Advance Your Skills with ACLS Academy’s New Advanced Life-Saving Courses!

At ACLS Academy, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of two advanced training courses designed to empower and elevate the skills of healthcare professionals in the Greater Boston area! We’re dedicated to bringing the best and latest American Heart Association (AHA) training to our community, and our founders, Shelley and Chad Lynch, recently took an exciting step forward in this mission. After attending the AHA’s Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) conference in Chicago this September, they came back inspired and committed to offering two pivotal new courses: Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Experienced Providers (ACLS-EP) and Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS). These courses will be available soon at our Quincy, Newton Center, and Bridgewater locations as our team completes instructor certifications.

These courses offer specialized training benefitting both seasoned healthcare providers and those aiming to deepen their expertise in emergency care. Discover how ACLS-EP and ASLS can enhance your skills and prepare you to handle critical situations confidently. Let’s dive into what each course brings to your professional toolkit!

Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Experienced Providers (ACLS- EP)

ACLS for Experienced Providers course is an in-depth training program designed by the American Heart Association (AHA) to build on existing ACLS knowledge, pushing experienced providers to a higher level of expertise in managing complex cardiovascular emergencies. ACLS-EP aims to enhance outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory, and other emergencies (such as metabolic and toxicologic crises) by building on core ACLS guidelines and fostering advanced critical thinking and decision-making skills. This course is perfect for medical professionals who have already mastered the basics of ACLS and are looking to gain a deeper understanding of advanced concepts and protocols.

 What’s covered in ACLS-EP?

This highly interactive course involves scenario-based learning, simulations, and a strong focus on teamwork and communication, preparing participants for real-world challenges. In ACLS-EP, participants dive into challenging cardiovascular scenarios and case-based discussions to develop their decision-making and critical-thinking skills in high-stakes situations. Key areas covered include:

·        Applying the expanded systematic approach (ACLS-EP Survey) to patient assessment, evaluation, and management

·        Cardiovascular Emergencies

·        Cerebrovascular Emergencies

·        Respiratory and Metabolic Emergencies

·        Post-Cardiac Arrest Care

·        Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Emergencies

·        High-Quality CPR

·        Effective communication within a resuscitation team and recognition of the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s ACLS-EP Course is designed for those who are proficient in performing BLS and ACLS skills, reading and interpreting ECGs, and understanding ACLS pharmacology, and who regularly lead or participate in emergency assessment and treatment of prearrest, arrest, or post-arrest patients. The course is ideal for experienced healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and emergency responders regularly managing acute cardiac conditions. Those working in emergency departments, intensive care units, and cardiac care units will find the course particularly valuable as it enhances their skills in complex case management and advanced resuscitation.

 Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS)

The American Heart Association, in collaboration with the University of Miami’s Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education, has introduced the new Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Blended Learning course with a shared mission to reduce deaths and disabilities caused by stroke. As the AHA’s latest card-credentialing course, ASLS empowers healthcare professionals to recognize, assess, and manage stroke patients effectively.

Developed by top experts in stroke care, emergency medicine, prehospital services, and nursing education, the ASLS curriculum is widely implemented in hundreds of hospitals, fire rescue teams, EMS systems, and educational institutions throughout the U.S. and internationally. This course also fulfills the staff education requirements for premier stroke care certifications, including those from the Joint Commission’s Advanced Certifications.

What’s Covered in ASLS?

The ASLS course is designed around realistic, scenario-based learning and covers vital areas in stroke care, including:

  • Recognition of stroke symptoms and the application of the "FAST-ED" stroke severity scale.

  • Pathophysiology of stroke, including the mechanisms of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.

  • Prehospital and early hospital stroke management, including initial assessment, stabilization, and transportation protocols.

  • Comprehensive understanding of treatment options for stroke, such as thrombolytic therapy and endovascular interventions.

  • Post-acute stroke care and rehabilitation needs.

This course includes hands-on simulations and case-based discussions, which provide a realistic environment for enhancing decision-making and clinical assessment skills.

Who Would Benefit from this Training?

The ASLS course is ideal for healthcare providers in various settings, including emergency department staff, physicians, nurses, paramedics, and EMS personnel. Additionally, stroke care and rehabilitation professionals, such as neurologists, physical therapists, and allied health staff, will find the course beneficial. Anyone contributing to the chain of care for stroke patients can gain valuable skills to improve their readiness and response.

Prerequisite Training

No formal prerequisites are required to take the ASLS course, making it accessible to healthcare providers with varying levels of experience. However, having ACLS and PALS certifications helps since a mega code portion of the exam is similar to ACLS and PALS. Additionally, a background in basic clinical care and familiarity with emergency protocols are recommended to help participants fully engage with the material.

These new programs will provide specialized knowledge and hands-on practice for experienced providers, ensuring they can tackle complex cardiac and stroke cases precisely and confidently. Join us at ACLS Academy to take your expertise to the next level and be part of a community dedicated to life-saving excellence!
