At ACLS Academy one of our new Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) training features includes virtual learning modules with avatar-based simulation.
Virtual reality learning provides a supportive environment for applied practice, the gold standard for learning to provide safe practice spaces to learn from mistakes and hone student’s skills. It is a superior format for immersing learners in realistic interactions that develop and reinforce neural pathways critical for turning new behaviors into habits.
Interactivity is a key attribute of VR, making it more effective than video demonstration. Avatar-based virtual reality simulations provide students with the opportunity to put intervention into practice on models to overcome problems they may encounter in real clinics. Students can develop the nursing skills on virtual patients and perform interventions smoothly and confidently without running the risk of harming real patients.
Virtual reality simulations boost students’ concentration, engagement, confidence, motivation, and creativity, and allow them to put theory into practice and learn at their own pace. It also provides them with the opportunity to practice repetitively whenever they want in a safe environment without fear of making mistakes.
